BEFORE Hardwood INSTALLATION
Follow these valuable considerations before your hardwood installation to ensure a smooth process:
- Remove all furnishings, electronics, wall hangings, and doors from the rooms and closets receiving new hardwood.
- Since hardwood can't be installed over an existing floor, the current floors will need to be removed and disposed of.
- Complete all painting and touch-ups in the room before installation begins.
- Hardwood installation requires a completely flat subfloor so you will need to repair any imperfections.
- Bring in the hardwood planks to acclimate for at least 48 hours before installation.
DURING Hardwood INSTALLATION
When your hardwood installation day is here, take these steps for safety and efficiency:
- Plan to be home to answer any questions for the installation crew.
- Designate an area in the home for workers to keep installation tools, keep boxes of hardwood before they are installed, and saw planks as needed.
- Keep kids and pets away from the rooms receiving new hardwood and the worker’s area.
- Establish appropriate ventilation in the home as directed.
AFTER Hardwood INSTALLATION
Once your new hardwood installation is complete, make sure to observe the following:
- Wait for the specified amount of time before walking on your new wood floors and returning furnishings.
- When bringing furniture back in, always lift or use moving equipment with rollers to avoid scratching the surface.
- We recommend using felt protectors under the legs of heavier furniture to reduce impact.
- You may need to shave down the bottom of doors in order to ensure full range of motion with the new flooring height.
